Lumen News

May 10, 2012

Dear Parents,

Cinco de Mayo was a huge success!  Approximately $7500 was raised to Lumen. Thank you to all the parents and students who helped with the event. Special thanks to LeAndra Childs for coordinating the event, Daniel Esparza for coordinating food and Myriam Macias-Franquez for coodinating our dancers!  We must also thank our students for the excellent dances and serving the meal.

Upcoming Events!
Graduation will take place in our gymnasium this evening at 7:00PM.  Congratulations to the senior class of 2012!  You have done a fine job. We would like to remind all students, including graduates, that dressing modestly is appropriate for this event. As Lumen students, you always wear our badge, even when not in uniform. Please represent us honorably with pride.

All student Share hours are due no later than tomorrow, Friday May 11. Should you have questions or concerns please contact the office. This is a significant portion of the students’ theology grade, it is important that they participate.

Final Exams will be held May 15-17. School will be dismissed at 10:50AM on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. No lunch will be served, all students will need to be picked up promptly.

Next year’s student schedules will be built next week. If you have particular questions, or requests about your student’s schedule, you may contact Debbie Brewer at dbrewer@lumenchristiak.com. Please remember, all emailed suggestions will be addressed next week.

An ice cream social is being held for students after school on Monday, May 14th.  Yearbooks will be distributed at that time. If you have not yet bought a yearbook, and would like to, please contact our office. The current price for yearbooks is $65.

The home page for track in Alaska is:   http://www.athletic.net/ You can check all meets (except those held by ASCAA) there.  Upcoming track meets include: May 11 and 12 Regionals Meet at Su-Valley. On May 18 and 19 State Track Meet at Fairbanks. Please come out and cheer on our team!

We are trying to determine how many students would sign up for a 7th hour elective in either Jazz Band or Art for next year.  In 2011-12 we only had a total of 5 students who wanted to take this class.  Please let the office know if you are interested for 2012-13.

Share Hours:

Any parents who would like to serve as mentors for families new to Lumen please contact the office.  We hope to have 20 new families joining us next year.  We are still accepting applications for the fall.

We are looking for students who would like to volunteer to set up and take down the Disabled American Veterans Gun Show on August 3, 4, and 5.  Service hours are available and sometimes tips are given to the student volunteers.  Call the office if you would like to volunteer.

In Christ,

Tom Sorci
